If there was an Original Sin, it was when man created the concept of otherness. When boundaries were put on inclusion. —The Book of Samael
Welcome, friend. I am Rayne Corvus Miller (they/them), a writer since the day I first held a pen. My stories and poems have often been dark and haunting, or else of lessons the darkness relays. My book Bone Dust is both and based on the sacred yet twisted tales of Norse mythology.
I wrote about the wretched pain of losing one’s identity in Dark Corners of the Old Dominion. I sought vengeance on the Hollywood Buck’s murderer in No Tomb of His Own. I stepped into the mind of a serial killer in Parhelion Literary Magazine’s Halloween issue. I examined the heart of a priest-turned-vampire as he contemplated his next kill in The Spooklet.
We call these beings monsters. Sometimes they are. And sometimes they are nothing but othered, villainized and therefore feared by society. As a being labeled other for my nonbinary gender, my pagan faith, my queerness, and my neurodivergence, it was natural for me to visit this theme time and time again.
You may have seen my work on the page or the stage over the years — perhaps reading poetry at Baltimore’s Edgar Allan Poe Museum or discussing horror writing on a panel at Richmond’s Galaxy Con. I’m also a member of the Horror Writers Association, Chesterfield Poetry Collective, and Trans Journalists Association.
Going back to the bit about my pagan faith, you may know me from the pagan community where I provide spiritual support through events, rituals, podcast episodes, and tarot and rune readings. I also had the honor of being quoted in a VPM News article — though under a former name and pronouns — of appearing on the Mystical Musings podcast, and of reading tarot at Richmond’s Best Fest in 2025.

Two final notes:
- You won’t find me on Big Tech platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or Twitter. See the footer for links to my socials.
- You may have noticed that some of my publications mention me by another name, some variant of M.R. Badillo. It’s still me. I wasn’t having a stroke while I wrote up my Writing page. :)
Thank you for being here!
Cheers,
Rayne (they/them)
